Fergie Fergie Fergie
Adopted 04/28/08!
Introducing Fergie (ARPH #10569), a 2-1/2 year old, 40 lb., red merle female. Fergie is such a pretty girl, I can't tell you how many people compliment me on what a great looking Aussie she is. Before she came into our rescue she had spent the majority of her life living outside, we weren't even sure if she was housebroken. Fergie has proven to be quite the smart little girl who is very good at adapting to new situations. She is housebroken, listens well, has good name recall and walks very well on a leash. Fergie loves to be petted and also absolutely loves to play and will do so for as long as you are willing to throw. When first meeting other dogs Fergie takes a minute to warm up but after that she plays really well and is even good at sharing the couch! Fergie would do fine in a home that has cats, she really doesn't pay any attention to the cats in her foster home. Fergie is current on all shots and is spayed. She is a very special dog with a lot of love and loyalty to give. Fergie is located in Sandwich. If you are interested in this dog, please complete an ARPH Application Form. ONLY those with an approved application on file should contact the ARPH rescue rep listed. Please contact Missy at missycramer@gmail.com with questions or for more information. (listed 04/02/08)

Pi Pi
Adopted 04/21/08!
This is our dear foster dog Pi (ARPH #10570), a beautiful 2 year old, blue merle female with one blue/amber eye and one all amber eye. The shelter that rescued Pi gave her the name because she was saved her on 3/14. Kind of clever and a great way to remember the start of her wonderful new life! Pi came from a very sad and neglectful situation. Pi was owned by an elderly woman who, unfortunately, was very ill and completely unable to care for her dogs. As a result, she kept Pi in a crate almost all of the time. She was not even taken out to go potty very often; so you can imagine how matted and smelly she was when we picked her up. Considering how neglected Pi was, she is a very sweet and social girl. She's pretty well housebroken, amazingly, only one mistake when she was feeling particularly stressed. She's great with other dogs and with people too. She loves children but gets so excited when she sees them that she gets rambunctious and does try to herd them, which can scare the little ones a bit. She's very curious about our cats but not aggressive. I think she would learn to leave them alone in time. Pi certainly needs a home that will be willing to be patient with her as many things are new to her, and also to train her. There are so many things she has to learn, like climbing stairs and riding in the car. She's so smart and eager, though, that she's already figured many things out. She's so enthusiastic, like a child who's discovering the world. I think that she would learn to fetch and do agility and she is definitely adept at herding. So she's perfect for someone who wants an eager dog to train. She doesn't know how to walk on a leash but doesn't pull too much either. When she looks into my eyes I think she's saying, "Just be patient with me and teach me all you know and I'll do all I can to please you and be your best pal." Pi is up-to-date on her vaccinations, spayed, and is ready for adoption. She is located in Park Ridge. If you are interested in this dog, please complete an ARPH Application Form. ONLY those with an approved application on file should contact the ARPH rescue rep listed. Please contact Missy at missycramer@gmail.com with questions or for more information. (listed 04/02/08)

Maggie & Merlin Older pair needs new home
Private Referral (listed 05/06/08)

Please meet Maggie and Merlin. These are two 9-year-old Aussies located in Bloomington. Their owners are moving to a new house and really do not have the time to devote to them anymore. They would like to find a home for the two together if possible. Both are affectionate, active, and in good health. Merlin is a blue merle; Maggie is a sable Aussie/Rottie mix. Both have been around other dogs at parks and in the neighborhood; they are friendly and inquisitive. Both were born in the fall of 1998. Merlin is very affectionate and playful, full of energy! He will chase frisbees until he collapses. The owners used to do agility training with him and say he learns fast and is very eager to please. He's been around children for at least the last 4 years with no problems. He will bark at new visitors, but relaxes when shown they are okay and welcome. Maggie is calm, affectionate, and gentle with kids. If you are interested in Maggie and Merlin and are an approved adopter please contact Anne Heckle at ausiersq@dstream.net.

Charlie Charlie
Private Referral (listed 04/25/08)

Frisbee anyone? Introducing Charlie, a gorgeous 2 ½ year old, average-sized, black-tri male. Charlie is looking for a new home because he has a very high herding instinct, especially when it comes to children. Because of this Charlie needs a home without children under 10 years old. Charlie's current family says that he is loving, very smart, fun, a great Frisbee catcher and very handsome. He has been through a beginning obedience class and knows sit, stay, come, heel, down and can retrieve. Charlie is also housebroken and crate-trained. Charlie's needs a home where he will have adequate exercise for his average Aussie energy level. His family said that despite the walks they take him on, he needs a lot more activity than they can provide. They understand that he really needs a job to do and believe that he would be well-suited for agility, Frisbee, flyball or herding. When Charlie is not exercised enough he can be very creative at entertaining himself including chewing shoes and paper. Charlie absolutely loves toys, playing hide and seek, and fetch. He is great with other dogs, he just really wants to play. He would do well with a dog-savvy cat but will try to herd cats if they run from him. Charlie is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm and flea and tick preventative. Charlie is located in Columbia. His family really loves him but due to his herding of toddlers and an energy level that is more than they can handle, they have decided to find him a new home so that they can do what is best for him. If you are interested in Charlie and are an approved adopter please contact Missy Cramer at missycramer@gmail.com.

Rocky Rocky
Private Referral (listed 03/16/08)

This is Rocky. Rocky is a 9 year old red merle male, about 50 lbs., and is such a great dog I would love to see him go home with someone who appreciates the breed. He is doing well at his foster mom's house although he is becoming quite taxing on her two cats, who must sneak around to get to their litter and food in order to avoid being "herded" unwillingly back into the bedroom. Otherwise, he is doing just fine; he is quite docile and obedient, but still has plenty of "run" in him when it is time to play. His first owner taught him basic obedience, as he is able to sit/shake/play catch. When he was younger, he lived on a farm where he had acres to run, and he was much happier. He will go outside on a tie-out for short periods of time and stay in a fenced yard. If let out without a fence/tie-out, he'll chase cars/squirrels, etc so a fenced yard is necessary. He is nervous around children, though he doesn't normally act aggressively towards them. I am not comfortable with small children near him (those at eye level with him) as he is not affectionate with them and moves nervously around them. When alone in the house he howls periodically, but sleeps otherwise, does not chew furniture or shoes. He pulls when walking on a leash, but will go where you lead him. I am really sad to give up this loyal animal. He is strikingly beautiful, affectionate with his owners, and loyal. He is extremely adaptable, having lived on a large farm and in a small town home. He's extremely smart, with his keen shepherd's sense of work ethic. He loves to go for walks/runs with his owner (anything outdoors). He is scared of the vet, but doesn't act aggressively there (just cries). He is located in Morton Grove. If you are interested in giving Rocky a quiet loving home without kitties, please contact Georganne at annaverv@yahoo.com.

Buddy Buddy Buddy
Private Referral

Hi, my name is Buddy. I was born April 24, 2002 and I am an oversized Austrailian Shepherd. I usually weigh about 70lbs. I have all current shots. I am very willing to please and love my owners with enthusiasm. I love to play ball, run and chase things. I have tried to work cattle, but need more training. I do know obedience, but at times need to be reminded that I know what you're are asking me. I get a little overspirited when new things are happening or visitors come. I do much better if I can have a toy in my mouth to keep from barking. I love my toys. I am housebroken. I prefer to sleep on my own bed next to my owners at night. I get scared at thunderstorms and want to be comforted. I spend most of the days outside unless its too cold and I am allowed to venture about the house. I do like Kleenex tissues a lot, especially in the garbage can, so my owners have to block me from that. I am very protective of my family. I do get scared easily especially of small children who are loud and move fast. I prefer adults or older children who will not scare me. I am sensitive about my hind legs and feet, but my owners make me mind so they can clip my toenails gently. I am not a submissive dog and do not get along with any other dogs that are dominant in nature. I grew up with two other dogs but would also really enjoy being the only dog. I do like to chase cats, goats, cattle, horses and motorcycles (not cars, just motorcycles, they are to loud!). I do have a fenced yard to keep me in. I like to explore and at times wander off, but will come back when called. I need an environment with adults that would give me a job and older children and a fenced property so I will not wander off. Please email Anne at ausiersq@dstream.net if you might be interested in giving me a new home. (listed 03/03/08)

Manny Manny Manny
Private Referral

Here's Manny. He has HUGE coat and an obvious sense of humor. His favorite thing is to get close to me and "dare" me to touch him. He's grinning the whole time, as he escapes my touch easily. He's a beautiful, smart boy. He's doing wonderfully well, I'm amazed at how different he is once I have him under my control. He does stick very close to me (leans on my legs) when we're walking, but now I can bathe him, brush him, take him to the vet, all that good stuff! I'm excited, it's a great break-through for Manny! Manny, along with Brody, Lucky, and Buster (also shown here) were dumped at a shelter in Missouri. Contact Anne at ausiersq@dstream.net or Kelli at kelliannmusic@comcast.net. (listed 01/12/08)

Brody Brody Brody
Private Referral

This is Brody. Brody is a red-tri male Aussie, about 8 months old. He's is a bit shy. He LOVES to play tug, I've befriended him by dragging things like a leash, towel, etc., to be able to interact with him. He wants to grab them from me, but is still hesitant. When my young dog, Finn, takes him a toy, they play tug together. Brody, along with Manny, Lucky, and Buster (also shown here) were dumped at a shelter in Missouri. Contact Anne at ausiersq@dstream.net or Kelli at kelliannmusic@comcast.net. (listed 01/12/08)
