Austin Austin (ARPH #0047) is a 2 year old black-tri male Aussie. He is now a very happy and good natured boy, a far cry from the sad beginnings of his young life. Austin was found tied to the gate of one of the local high kill facilities in the area. He is a beautiful boy with lovely copper trim and very little while. He has a full flowing tail that constantly wags, and a bright and smiling face. He has brown eyes and is neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations. Austin is heartworm negative and has been on Interceptor and Frontline since he came into rescue. Austin makes an impression on everyone he meets. He knows his name very well and comes when he is called. He enjoys going for walks and loves to do “bunny patrol” while we walk. Austin is very affectionate and doing anything that involves one-on-one time is ok with him! He enjoys riding in the car and meeting new friends. To help with his socialization, Austin attends doggie daycare Monday- Friday. He has done very well and loves to play with all the other dogs. Austin would do fine with a dog-savvy cat. He does have some prey drive which is common in Aussies, so if the cat runs, he will chase for fun. Doing obedience classes with Austin would be a great way to bond and become best friends. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 05/02/08)

Cinder Cinder (ARPH #10557) is a 5 year old blue merle female. She is an adorable little dog! Cinder has a very puppy-ish look to her: she is small (45 lbs.), chubby and with big fuzzy feet, but she has the excellent house manners of a mature dog. What a great combination! She is perfectly house broken and does not chew or destroy anything, except dog bones. She is very quiet, doesn't bark very much, and is not demanding at all. She is very independent, quite content to hang out by herself. In fact, she would do just fine in a home without other dogs. She behaves well with her foster brother and sister unless there is food involved. She is quite food aggressive with other dogs and she needs to be in her crate at mealtimes. She has gotten much better since she has been here, though. We can peacefully give treats now. Cinder is super sweet and has not shown any hostility towards the cats, goats, chickens or horses. We have not had any children around, so that is an unknown. She is very pleasant, always wiggling her butt! She has not apparently been taught anything, we are working on sit and coming when called. She will definitely need a fenced yard! She likes to go exploring if she gets loose and will only come back when she is good and ready. She walks very well on a leash. Cinder is a very easy, friendly, non-demanding dog to live with. She enjoys pats and will sit quietly with you. She stays off the furniture and basically doesn't bother anything, really great house manners! Cinder is up-to-date on all her shots. The vet found a scar on her abdomen, although she wasn't 100% sure it was a spay scar but it probably is. She has not shown any signs of heat while here with us. Cinder is very camera shy, but additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 05/08/08)

Merlin Blue Merlin
Merlin (ARPH #10558) is an 8 year old blue merle male with one blue eye and one brown eye and a docked tail that wags almost non-stop. He is very well-behaved in the house, although he hasn't been in foster care long enough for us to know if he is housetrained. He was an outside dog in his last home. Merlin loves walks and car rides and acts like a young pup. He is good with kids, horses and other dogs and tolerates cats he knows. He is heartworm negative and is in good health. He is very quiet, easy, doesn't push and has not barked yet in his foster home. He waits for the attention he loves. He enjoys accompanying a 4 wheeler and staying close to home. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 04/23/08)

Molly This is Molly (ARPH #9796). After finding her perfect forever home, Molly is now in need of another loving home because of the illness of one of her owners. Molly is a beautiful 5 year old blue merle Aussie female with one blue eye and one brown eye. She is definitely a “people person” and loves to be petted. Molly is usually quiet and very gentle, but will let you know when someone comes to the door. She would prefer being the only dog in the household, but she can tolerate other animals. Molly seems to like children who will pet her and take her on walks, but she isn’t big on playing aggressively. I believe her ideal home would be one made up primarily of adults, with children around 10 years of age and older. We haven’t seen how she responds to infants or toddlers. Molly is a sweet girl who will chase cars and trucks if given the opportunity. She has marvelous jumping capabilities and would need a fenced in yard for her safety. When we take her to the local Bark Park, she will run around some, but prefers to seek out people and beg shamelessly to be petted. She knows a few commands such as “come,” “sit,” “down,” “up.” Molly has a fear of thunder and lightning. On the vet's recommendation, it is suggested that she be given Melatonin (over the counter dietary supplement) when a storm is expected. In addition, the vet has also prescribed Valium to help with her anxiety. Other than this, Molly is a perfect dog who requires so little to make her happy. She is housebroken and loves to be taken for walks and car rides. So, Molly needs a family where she can be the only dog; a home with a fenced yard, a family who will help her during storms, a family who will love and pet her. The only reason we cannot keep her is because of her owner's health. She can only be adopted by someone who will promise to love her and treat her with care and respect. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 04/06/08)

Lady Heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Lady (ARPH #10556)! Lady is a little whippersnapper of a pup, about 9 months old, full of life and play. She is a blue merle female. Lady was at a shelter for three weeks before we learned about her and while there developed an upper respiratory infection from which she is recovering quite nicely. She will be spayed when fully recovered, by the end of April. Lady enjoys toys and the companionship of other dogs. She is somewhat head shy and needs to learn leash manners. She appears to have had no training or to have been inside a house before. She does not appear to have been neglected either. She's just a happy go lucky pup and the world is her oyster. She has brown eyes and a half natural bob tail. She's had her vaccinations and when she has recovered from her spay, she'll be ready for her new home. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 04/06/08)

Abby Adopted 04/21/08!
This is Abby (ARPH #10555), an 18 month old blue merle female. Abby is a very sweet girl (as most Aussie girls are). She is a very quiet and soft dog. She likes to shake hands and give kisses. Walking on a leash is a wonderful experience with this dog, no pulling or balking and she responds to the slightest tug. She potties well on a leash also. She doesn't seem to have a problem with my other dogs, which are both females, horses, geese, cows or parrots. Abby is up to date on her shots and has been spayed. She is heartworm negative and is gaining some weight. She is not a food driven dog. We are working on crate training, she doesn't like to go in the crate, but is very quiet and well behaved once she's in. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/30/08)

Sky This is Sky (ARPH #10379), a 3 year old blue merle male. He was picked up as a stray in Eastern Kentucky. Sky is very good-natured and friendly with people and other dogs. He is a beautiful blue merle, with one blue eye and one brown. He is bigger than some Aussies, probably 23 inches tall. He has a natural bob tail that is about 4 inches long. Sky is up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered and is heartworm negative. He is on Interceptor and Frontline. Sky goes to doggie daycare where he does very well. We are working on walking nice with a leash and coming when called. If you have room in your house and heart for a big happy boy, please call for more info on our blue Sky. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/30/08)

Kelly This is Kelly (ARPH #10091), a 9-month-old red-tri male. Kelly's super intelligence is demonstrated by his amazing progress in his foster home! When he came to ARPH about the first of November, he was nothing but unbridled, unsocialized, untrained, wild, exuberant, enthusiastic Aussie energy. He's still exuberant and enthusiastic but he has learned basic commands. He loves car rides, hard to keep him out of the car and hard to get him out of the car. He doesn't mind people tapping on the car windows, in fact he pretty much loves everybody. He loves other dogs and is eager to play. He tolerates cats well. He wants to play with them, with all 57 lbs. of his exuberant energy. The 17 year old cat doesn't appreciate that at all. He runs very fast. He will chase cars and trucks if you let him. He doesn't like automatic garage door openers or smoke alarms. Tuna, peanut butter and bananas are good. Hold the carrots. He is ok with the crate, though he'd prefer to be out of it. He stays in it well overnight. Kellly has learned what to do with chew toys: the bone and the Kong are fun! Don't leave him alone with a water bowl: he'll dump the water and destroy the bowl. Kelly sits on command and will wait until he is released -- as long as 60 seconds. That's a lot for this guy. He is sitting at doors, both to go out and when he comes in, much more on his own -- hmmm, door, that means I'm supposed to sit. He holds still to put the harness or gentle leader on him! Kelly does need some work on his recall; so far, he comes only for treats. Massages to the back legs, the back, and the chest are greatly appreciated. He loves to jump up and give kisses, too! Kelly is housebroken, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. This boy has enormous potential and is looking for a home where he can be all he can be! Kelly really needs an experienced owner who can channel his energy in a positive energy. Did you say agility? Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/22/08)

Molly Molly (ARPH #10553) is a sweet, good looking blue merle female about 6 years old, a robust 61 pounds, with one blue and one brown eye and docked tail. Molly walks well on leash, rides nicely in the car, gets along well with other dogs and has a calm personality, although she likes to have fun. She gets along well with most other dogs. Molly has done well recently meeting dogs in group situations. There are no issues with her foster brother or with another foster dog. She was said to be an outside farm dog, and her owner said she worked cattle. Although judging from her weight and house manners, she may have spent more time as a house dog! Molly is turning out to be a wonderful dog, very quiet and completely trustworthy in the house. She loves to be petted and gets very excited when someone looks her way, making a cute "snork" sound and going into a play bow. Molly is spayed, up-to-date on shots, and is heartworm negative. You can see Molly's video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keZoUKPVYIo. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/08/08; updated 04/29/08)

Scooter Scooter (ARPH #10371) was found with her mother wandering loose outside of the Scott County Animal Shelter. She's a small black-tri female, about a year old (as of January 2008), with pretty amber eyes and a docked tail. Scooter is a happy, energetic little girl which shows in her classic wiggling butt and capering playfulness. She loves being patted on the head, which is helping her get over her shyness. She gets along great with her foster pack, and shows no sign of dominance, even as the only female in the group. She is well-behaved, quiet around the house, is housebroken and crate-trained; all-in-all, a sweet little dog who should make someone a great companion and playmate. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/03/08)

Pepper Pepper
Adopted 05/02/08!
Beautiful special needs female available
Pepper (ARPH #10552) is a 1 year old blue merle female. Looking for that famous Aussie pluck, spirit and affection? But with a little less herding instinct? A little less demand for exercise and work? Pepper may be the perfect girl for you! Abandoned by her owners? Escaped from a miserable situation? This magnificent Aussie cannot tell us why she was a stray. But she was, at a sawmill in Kentucky. She was hit by a truck and then waited patiently until the Animal Control workers arrived. She had an injured left front leg. The initial vets tried to relocate the dislocated elbow and when they were unable to do so, amputated the left leg above the elbow. When she arrived at her foster home, it was apparent that she had something wrong with her right hind leg. An Xray showed a dislocated right hip. By the time we learned this, it was obvious that Pepper had an enormous heart and tremendous spirit and we knew we had to do whatever we could to give her the opportunity to bring joy into the world. She underwent surgery at Ohio State to minimize the effect of the dislocated right hip. Despite what had to be a lot of suffering on her part, her healing is progressing and she has maintained that absolutely awesome happiness and attitude. Pepper has no appreciation of the fact that she has limitations. She is truly undaunted. She is a happy, extremely loving and affectionate dog who enjoys the company of other dogs. She's a beautiful girl, too. Both eyes are an amber color but the right eye looks like a kaleidoscope of amber. She enjoys bones and stuffed toys. She is learning how to catch them again. And she runs in the yard and plays with the other dogs. She jumps into the Jeep. Pepper's forever home will have very few steps. She is fearful of slick floors but moves quite well on carpet, rugs and grass. She will need a ranch style home and a fenced yard is an absolute requirement. Despite her serious injuries, she shows a lot of interest when a loud vehicle passes along our road! And because she is a little slower than other dogs, she cannot go to a home where predators might invade her yard. Pepper's attitude is truly inspiring. She has been a model patient during her recovery; she does not complain. In addition to her Aussie beauty, she has a heart that is fully open to receiving love and affection and will gladly give it in return. She has been spayed, is fully vetted, heartworm negative and in excellent health. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 02/25/08; updated 04/28/08)

Merlin This cute little boy is Merlin (ARPH #10373). Merlin is a black-bi with a docked tail. He is about 6 months old, neutered and up to date on shots. Since Merlin is so young he is a blank slate just waiting for the right family to begin writing his life story. He fits in well with his foster siblings and should have no problem becoming some lucky family’s new best friend. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 01/27/08)

Midnight Midnight
This is Midnight (ARPH #10372). He was pulled from a central Kentucky shelter when the original owner brought him in and complained that he barked too much! He didn’t seem to understand that Midnight was a herding dog and that they can bark! Midnight has settled in well with our other foster dogs and is an avid player with all. He is such a happy-go-lucky guy, and just wants to have fun! Midnight is approximately 3-4 years old and is a black-bi neutered male. He has a full tail and small bit of white on his chest and on a couple of toes. He really is quite the beauty! Midnight’s issue currently seems to be with men. It is apparent he has been frightened and at this time prefers women. We are working on this and hopefully over time he will relax a bit more. Midnight is up to date on his vaccinations and is heartworm negative. He rides well in a car (crated) and we are working on walking on a leash. He is a puller, and is just a happy boy to be going for a walk! A fenced in yard would work best for Midnight, along with continued socialization. If you have room in your heart for Midnight please consider him adding him to your family. There will be more pictures of him when we are able to slow him down enough! For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 01/27/08)

Annie Annie
This is Annie (ARPH #10085), a 5 year old blue merle female. Annie is a very sweet, delicate, quiet little princess. She prefers quiet space and chooses to remain in her crate much of the time rather than having to cope with her young, boisterous foster brother. When he is outside, she is playful, enjoys getting scritches, and will chase and catch squeaky toys. She would be happiest being an only dog. She gets along with all of the other dogs, except when the foster brother tries to take her toys. They play a game where he snatches a toy from her bed and when he abandons it, she snatches it back and returns it to her crate. During the day when he is confined, she plays with the other dogs. She is a very good dog, very seldom barks and is not at all destructive. Annie does ask to go outside. She really likes riding in the car but has now acquired a taste for ice cream! Ideally, Annie would have her own family that is quiet, and where someone would be home much of the day. She is fully vetted, spayed and has fully recovered from her heartworm treatment. Additional photos are available. If you are an approved ARPH adopter, please contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 11/27/07; updated 02/21/08)

Charley Heeeeeeere's Charlie (ARPH #9946)! Charlie has been making up for lost time. Picked up from the Scott County Animal Shelter at the beginning of June, he appeared to be malnourished, with no muscle mass or chest development, but he was otherwise a happy, high spirited, young man. Since he's been in a foster home with regular meals and exercise, he now has a sleek athletic look with muscles perfect for leaping and chasing his foster friends in the back yard. He's a handsome leggy black-tri with amber eyes, 23" tall at the shoulder. At just over a year old, his personality is still something like a Looney Tunes cartoon character -- in other words, he's a typical Aussie, high energy, and looking for fun. Although he can be boisterous, he's very friendly, knows basic commands although sometimes pretends not to, and is learning proper manners. Charley moves beautifully; with his athletic ability and air time, he has all the makings of a major frisbee, agility, or flyball dog. He came housebroken and crate-trained and walks on leash. He gets along well with other dogs showing a nice mid-pack personality, but hasn't been observed interacting with cats yet. He has been checked for hip displaysia and xrayed perfectly normal. He is neutered and microchipped. Additional photos are available. For more information and after filing your adoption application, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 11/01/07)

Private Referrals The following dogs are listed as a courtesy to other rescues, shelters, and private individuals looking to place a dog. Any adoption resulting from these listings is a matter solely between the lister and potential adopter.

Mattie This is Mattie. Mattie is a beautiful 2 year old blue merle female whose family wants to find a home for her where she is contained or has plenty of room to run. She currently lives in a subdivision with two other dogs and her yard is secured only by an underground fence. Mattie is territorial and the shock from the fence does not stop her from protecting her family and turf if an unknown neighbor or dog approaches the house. Mattie is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations. If you have a fully fenced yard or a farm where Mattie has room to run or herd, please contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. Mattie will be staying with her family until a new family is found. Her current family would like her to remain in Kentucky. (listed 04/27/08)

Campbell Adopted 04/13/08!
Campbell's owner can no longer keep him. Here is what she says about him: "We got him when he was 8 months old, he is purebred, his first owner could not sell him, so he gave him to my son. My son recently got a job with the railroad and is now on the road 4 days a week, and he has left me taking care of Campbell. I am getting ready to buy a home and where I am going, Campbell would have to be chained up and I just do not want that. Campbell is around 1 year old maybe 1-1/2. He had his shots when he was first born, but I have not taken him since we've had him. He gets along really good with my dog that I have in the house, but if another dog comes onto the property, he will run it off. He waits every afternoon for my daughter to get off the school bus and he walks her down to the house. He is a very loveable animal, shy at first, but after he gets to know you, he will be your best friend. He loves belly rubs. My landlord has cattle in the field and Campbell will sit out in the field with them for hours just watching them and making sure nothing bothers them. He stays close to home, never wandering off. I have not really had any problems with him. I really hate to give him away, but I have no choice. He needs a place with a big yard to run; I hate chaining animals up, it would kill him if I had to do that." Additional photos are available. If you are interested in more information about Campbell, contact Anne Pritchett at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 03/08/08)

Ripley Private Referral

This is Ripley. Ripley is a wonderful companion who is very smart and affectionate. He enjoys being active, but is also content being a couch potato. He gets along well with other dogs as well as cats, is housebroken and is very attentive to his person. Ripley is about two years old and weighs about 43 pounds; he's a blue merle male. He knows several basic commands (sit, shake, speak) and picks new ones up quickly. Please contact Mindy by email at Mindyhouseky@aol.com. (listed 10/13/06; updated 01/18/07; still available, still a great dog! 12/12/07)
