Two senior dogs in Illinois need new home Private Referral (listed 05/06/08) Please meet Maggie and Merlin. These are two 9-year-old Aussies located in Bloomington. Their owners are moving to a new house and really do not have the time to devote to them anymore. They would like to find a home for the two together if possible. Both are affectionate, active, and in good health. Merlin is a blue merle; Maggie is a sable Aussie/Rottie mix. Both have been around other dogs at parks and in the neighborhood; they are friendly and inquisitive. Both were born in the fall of 1998. Merlin is very affectionate and playful, full of energy! He will chase frisbees until he collapses. The owners used to do agility training with him and say he learns fast and is very eager to please. He's been around children for at least the last 4 years with no problems. He will bark at new visitors, but relaxes when shown they are okay and welcome. Maggie is calm, affectionate, and gentle with kids. If you are interested in Maggie and Merlin and are an approved adopter please contact Anne Heckle at ausiersq@dstream.net. |
| Adopted 05/02/08! Beautiful special needs female available Pepper (ARPH #10552) is a 1 year old blue merle female. Looking for that famous Aussie pluck, spirit and affection? But with a little less herding instinct? A little less demand for exercise and work? Pepper may be the perfect girl for you! Abandoned by her owners? Escaped from a miserable situation? This magnificent Aussie cannot tell us why she was a stray. But she was, at a sawmill in Kentucky. She was hit by a truck and then waited patiently until the Animal Control workers arrived. She had an injured left front leg. The initial vets tried to relocate the dislocated elbow and when they were unable to do so, amputated the left leg above the elbow. When she arrived at her foster home, it was apparent that she had something wrong with her right hind leg. An Xray showed a dislocated right hip. By the time we learned this, it was obvious that Pepper had an enormous heart and tremendous spirit and we knew we had to do whatever we could to give her the opportunity to bring joy into the world. She underwent surgery at Ohio State to minimize the effect of the dislocated right hip. Despite what had to be a lot of suffering on her part, her healing is progressing and she has maintained that absolutely awesome happiness and attitude. Pepper has no appreciation of the fact that she has limitations. She is truly undaunted. She is a happy, extremely loving and affectionate dog who enjoys the company of other dogs. She's a beautiful girl, too. Both eyes are an amber color but the right eye looks like a kaleidoscope of amber. She enjoys bones and stuffed toys. She is learning how to catch them again. And she runs in the yard and plays with the other dogs. She jumps into the Jeep. Pepper's forever home will have very few steps. She is fearful of slick floors but moves quite well on carpet, rugs and grass. She will need a ranch style home and a fenced yard is an absolute requirement. Despite her serious injuries, she shows a lot of interest when a loud vehicle passes along our road! And because she is a little slower than other dogs, she cannot go to a home where predators might invade her yard. Pepper's attitude is truly inspiring. She has been a model patient during her recovery; she does not complain. In addition to her Aussie beauty, she has a heart that is fully open to receiving love and affection and will gladly give it in return. She has been spayed, is fully vetted, heartworm negative and in excellent health. Additional photos are available. | Adopted 04/15/08! Older Dog in Iowa Needs Loving Home We would like to introduce you to Nina. Nina is 10 years old, a pretty blue merle with a full tail. She is a very sweet older lady who was turned in by her owner because she is no longer able to keep her. The owner has been divorced and is having to move from a farm into an apartment where she'll be allowed to keep only one dog. She chose to keep her 14-year-old, knowing that one would probably be the most difficult to place, but she has to find new homes for her others. She first tried to return Nina to the shelter from which she adopted her years ago, but they said they would euthanize her as they euthanize any dog over six (!!). Well, of course that was not an option, so she found Aussie rescue. She left Nina with our rescue group after many tears and hugs, she obviously always keeps her dogs for their entire lives and this transition was heartbreaking for her. Poor Nina was also very quiet, sad, and confused for her first few days, but now she is blending into her foster home. Nina's a little bit overweight after a winter of inactivity. She has some minor mobility problems though we are seeing a lot less creakiness as she loses weight and is getting more exercise now that spring is here. She is already much better going up and down steps then when she first arrived, and is now even thinking about attempting the jump up into the back of the car. Nina gets along wonderfully with all dogs she's met, she is quiet and peaceful and meets politely, though we're sure she'd thrive as an only dog and dedicated companion. Nina has lived with kids, cats, horses and other dogs in the past. She's very happy to meet all humans and loves to be petted. Nina is housebroken, spayed, about 48 lbs., and current on all shots. She enjoys car rides, lays right down and is quiet. Nina comes immediately when called. She is content to lay quietly most of the day, though we hope she will find a home where she'll be taken for regular walks to keep her fit and healthy. She had her first trip to the dog park since she's been in her foster home and seemed to be very happy to be able to explore and sniff and greet people. Please consider adding this lovely trouble-free lady to your home! She has been a joy to foster and we hope that people can look past her graying muzzle to see how special she is. She certainly deserves a loving family to share her life. Nina is being fostered in Cedar Rapids. For more information, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com with Protege Rescue. (listed 03/16/08) |
| Older Dog in Indiana Private Referral (listed 07/18/07) This is Pablo. Pablo is 9 years old, pure bred, about 45 lbs., and a very handsome male blue merle Aussie. Although he is 9 years old he is still very healthy, active and playful. He has never outgrown his desire to be the center of attention. He knows most commands (he went to puppy school) and learns new things all the time. He loves to talk and be talked to. He has not gotten the care and attention he deserves because the daughter in his home has been in the hospital. His owners think it would be best for him to be in a home as the only dog with a family that could give him the love and attention he wants (or maybe with one other younger or less dominant dog). He has lived with another male dog. He does chase cats. Pablo has been a good dog, but their time and attention are limited, especially now. It makes them sad to think of him leaving, but they know it's what’s best under the circumstances. Pablo is located in McCordsville.
